Golden Gate Fields Horse Racing Track

Every year, Golden Gate Fields has a Filipino Heritage Day.

At most of our professional sports around the Bay Area, they have a filipino heritage day/night/game.

Every year, at AT&T Park, home of our San Francisco Giants baseball team, the Giants have a filipino heritage night.
This year it is the 5 of September.

This isn't a formal event, but oftentimes filipinos get together with their families to watch Manny Pacquiao.
This is a way for filipinos of any age or gender to have something to cheer for or to sob for, either or, they do so together, as a community.

Pacquiao is a huge icon for filipinos, he is an amazing role model for the people and a splendid icon for the Philippines.

Petitions

Many Filipinos came to the United states with petitions. Meaning that one family member can issue a paper(petition) to send one relative to the United States(beneficiary). After a beneficiary receives their petition, very often they will file for citizenship, or get married to become a citizen.

Also, When we were doing online research for Filipino traditions, we came upon this very interesting story from a filipino blogger:

“Jun, don’t forget the rice and salt,” my mom hurriedly said before our goodbyes. “Yes, of course. We’re taking a dozen eggs from the girls along with the rice and salt to the house tonight.” I said. My family rented and moved three times before we could afford a house that we called our own. Filipinos say taking rice and salt to a new home brings prosperity. For me, it isn’t superstition. It is a tradition, a reminder of who I am and where I am from.
